Temper Tantrums

Temper tantrums... Who said they were limited to children. Read the comments on any contraversial blog, and you'll quickly see my point.

With the impending birth of our third child, this NPR story about tantrums really caught my attention.

The most important lesson: when a child is angry, do nothing.

This works for internet trolls, too. Don't respond to the negative comments, and magic happens.

Food for thought.

Words of wisdom indeed. It's weird for me because I have the worst temper ever, but as I grew older, I learned to hide it (until I was alone and could get it out without major embarrassment, anyhow). And now, at the ripe old age (ha! Just kidding!) of 31, I can finally say that these are even words of wisdom I might manage to heed.

I've been fortunate to avoid the trolls since starting my blog. Years ago it was a different story when I was on message boards. I think that's why I tend to stick to Twitter and blogs these days, rather than wade through the liquid hate that seems rampant in online forums.

Katey - Our oldest is eight and still tanturms. The only thing which EVER works is the good ol' cold shoulder.

Gef - Trolls definitely like message boards. I don't mind lurking at a few, but far be it from me to poke my head out.

Oh yeah, the forums are where they hide. I've been in two of the very worst forums for trolls: video game forums and computer forums. Can you say "nerd rage?" :-p
