WIP Wednesday: Monsters Everywhere

What am I working on? Monsters.

They're everywhere.
Max (my three-year-old) is responsible for the monstrous picture. Random scribbles or a child's interpretation of an Old One who visits in the wee hours of the night? You make the call. It creeped me out for some reason.

Speaking of crazy, who is crazy enough to write a short story with the same title as a novel? I am. Read "The House Eaters" at Rose & Thorn Journal. I imagine this is what might happen to Nick and Tabby (brother and sister from the book) in an alternate universe...

...and what's my fetish with the name Maggie lately?

From a distance, Max's picure reminds me of a tick (a fat, blood-sucking one of course).

Yeah, I'm seeing a bloated tick, too. *shudders*

Max is a prodigy-- that is horrifying and awesome.

Enjoyed the story very much. Nothing like a creepy, tense, big ole' metaphor to start your (my) Wendesday!

Very well done. I am REALLY looking forward to the novel now!

I don't know what I'm seeing, but it's pretty horrific.

Alan, Michael - Tick came to mind. Bloated with blood...yes, that too.

Katey - I keep doing that metaphor thing. It just happens.

Barry - Remember "alternate universe". There are some creepy house moments, of course.

Elana - He frightens me on a daily basis.

I'm going to go with a blue hamburger someone punched.

I'll catch up with the story tomorrow. :D Max is quite the horrific little artist.

Natalie - Nice. Can it grow legs?

Cate - I'll do everything I can to foster his weirdness.

Excellent monster. I feel the need to hand my own children some crayons and read Poe out loud while they draw. Just as an experiment.

Max has drawn a picture of Sauron, obviously--the 'lidless eye, wreathed in flame.' :)

Now to read your story!

The more I look at it the more it seems to have a pulse.

A lovely, creepy story.

Jamie - I won't pay the therapy bills. Just in case you were wondering.

K.C. - Man...good call. I better check all the rings in the house.

Danielle - Okay, a pulse? That's creepy.

Yeah I can see its creepy potential.

You're an English teacher. If you couldn't wield the might power of metaphor, I'd despair for humanity.

Well, I'd despair even more for humanity, I mean to say.

Wow, the short version of 'The House Eaters' is a very different beast. Nicely done.

Thanks, Cate. It's kind of an homage to Julio Cortazar.
