I am WIP Wednesday

June was my least productive month since starting to write five years ago. I managed to squeeze out 12,000 words on a so-so novel. Maybe it's better than so-so. I did manage to sub one story (which is being "held for further consideration"). But as far as write 1 / sub 1... I'm a failure. I'm suffering from a severe case of the blahs right now.

Have you heard of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs? (here's the Wikipedia primer, if needed)

During the home remodel (and yes, it has spilled beyond the bathrooms), I feel stuck on level 2: safety.

Notice "creativity" falls under the top level.

*sigh*

My wife told me to go on sabbatical. I'm not going to do that. I love writing too much.

But for now, I'm going to spend a few hours on rebuilding my home.

How's the summer in your world?

Ah, yes, the Maslow pyramid. Rather synchronous that it should pique your interest during a time when you are involved with renovations, eh?

It is most annoying when the needs of the body interrupt us while we're trying supply the needs of that intangible thing referred to as the soul. Ah well, your house is going to be killer!

Um, in a good way. Like killer as in sick. I mean as in wicked. I mean--

You know what I mean.

There's no such thing as a W1S1 failure, so you can't be one. Just switch to the monthly challenge, and you've already beaten it!

Been spending way too much trying keep the landscape alive during the Texas drought. Working on my WIP. Just signed a contract to get RIVER BOTTOM BLUES published (the one VT orphaned), so that's a plus.

Martin - I may not survive.

Katey - I think the house might kill me. I can think of worse ways to go. It will be nice. The boys are already planning a slumber party in the new walk-in closets I've built.

Milo - Winning! Yeah... I hate to go monthly, but I won't make it any other way.

Ricky - Congrats on River Bottom Blues! That's a big plus--

The summer in my world is wet... This is not a shock.

12,000 words is nothing to sneeze at.

Summer in my world is a blur of unproductive days. I've probably written even less than you have, and without the good excuse of remodeling.

Hi Aaron,

Your worst months are more productive than my best, Brother. been lots of days at the pool, lots of days working with students, lots of days on the golf course and at the beach.

Not so many writing, unfortunately.

But hey, we internalize all of it. Chalk it all up to process and you have it right there!

Looking forward to pictures when the work is done!

Hey Aaron,

Stumbling blocks have been in my way, but I am planning on getting my novel revised and looked at by betas and ready to sub sometime this year.

Hope your summer is great! And it is good to take a small break. That's when I get some awesome ideas. ;-)
