Playing Hooky

I'm not sure the phrase "playing hooky" is universal in other English-speaking cultures. Around here it means I'm skipping school.

And I am--so I can go to school with my son. They have a wonderful program at Sunset Hill Elementary called "Watch D.O.G.S." and I'm the D.O.G.S. today. (Dads of Great Students) Of course, I'm not typing this at Owen's school; I'm having lunch at home during a break. What I've learned today:

1. Reading is everything in an elementary
2. Recess is still fun, but chaotic (and not nearly long enough)
3. I'm really proud of my kid

Owen even devoured his broccoli first at lunch. I wouldn't have had the willpower. (My sugar cookies would have been gone in five seconds.)

Enjoy your Tuesdays (or Wednesday for those of you down under).

I'm familiar with the term (I watch too much American TV). Here we say we're sagging. Not that I ever would. Naughty you.

I don't remember any vegetables when I went to school. Either we had less funding, or I had selective vision ; )

Sounds like a great day. It's a damned fine feeling to be proud of your kid...

A great day indeed. You must be incredibly proud. And hey, maybe you're bringing up a true veggie lover. Somehow my parents tricked me into loving most every vegetable there is. Weird.

It's great sitting in school with your kid, watching them interact with their friends. Makes you realise how independent they're becoming.

This is so awesome--what a cool concept for a school!

Recess was always too short, yeah :/

Sounds like fun! You can now call Owen your broccoli-eating kid. :)
