WIP Wednesday: Weeding the Word Garden

I'm slashing and hacking through the latest Sons of Chaos novella. The first half--el stinko. I've spent plenty of time and ink getting it close to "okay". The second half, mostly action, chase scenes, and killing monsters, is much tighter. I'm also about halfway through a beta read of a rather strange novella for a delightfully strange writer.

But am I writing?

Yes. A little. I've taken characters and situation from one of my previously published stories and started to expand (it might grow up to be a novella some day). The first line:

Jack’s dreams brought monsters of steel and rubber and glass, hulking things which screamed and cried frigid tears.

Today's writing prompt: You hit your head while running through the woods. When you wake, you are tied down and surrounded by a group of woodland creatures discussing ways in which to kill you...

Wait... you don't count editing as writing? That's half the battle!

...or maybe I am only working half as hard as I ought to be.

Ben - I do count editing as "writing", but if I spend too long just editing, I go mad.

The hacking & slashing is one of my favorite parts :)

The question is how strange? ;)

Now that I'm rewriting, I wish I was editing, of course when I'm back editing, I'll wish I was writing or rewriting. Enjoy your slashing and hacking.

I'm busy hacking & slashing my novel too. Good luck with your writing.

Mary - I like it, sometimes... Like when I realize a book is better than I thought.

Cate - The answer is: very. ;)

Jarmara - Good luck with your writing, too. Editing is usually fun, but I'm struggling today. :\

I'm at one of those between-writing places, too. It's kind of uncomfortable, really. But also good, because I feel like the crap I do have written is, well, crap.

Sons of Chaos omg!!! <3

Tip for men: pee on them.

Katey - It's a bit like sculpting granite. Eventually, I'll chip away enough...

Natalie - effective, but potentially dangerous (due to exposure)

You're making me look bad. Take a day off. :-P

What a wonderful first line.

Thanks, Danielle. I hope the rest of the story makes it.
