The Sub-Basement at Every Day Fiction

My short, "The Sub-Basement", is up today at Every Day Fiction. Last time I had a story there, I took a beating in the comments section, so I was a bit hesitant to give it a go again.

You can read it here. Yeah...it has pulp written all over it. That's my shtick.

Read it, liked it. the last line is sticking with me. Like it is stamped on my forehead and pressing into my brain. I would say you did your job.

Oooh, very nice indeed. I love stories with a simple beginning that morphs into a twisted ending. Well done!

Good creepy little story. I like it. (Funny to me as well, because my wife never wakes up for the kids. She sleeps like--well, like the dead.)

I'll reiterate my comment from the EDF comments: Good creepy stuff.

That was fantastic! You should see my basement here. There a big space under the stairs that creeps me out at night. Of course it's right next to the laundry machines : P

The suspenseful build up was exceptionally well done.

When the reveal came, my first thought was similar to Jay Dillon's comment about the Gramps being able to communicate with the kid, but I've found lately that to enjoy a lot of fiction, the reader/viewer needs to have that leap of faith, that suspension of belief to be able to truly enjoy what's presented.

It wasn't a big leap for me to enjoy this one.

Well done.

Ooh, wonderfully creepy! I didn't expect the ending at all!

I never read the comments at EDF for my stories. People are too happy to grouch about stupid stuff.

Just read it, absolutely loved it. You know me and pulp by now-- it's totally my favorite.

I'm a big fan of the sense of smell as a memory trigger, and just a really strong sensory experience in general. Neuroscience has some cool things to say about it. Nice usage!
