Ode to a Pancake

Houghton-Mifflin has a site in the vein of Mad Libs called Wacky Web Tales.

Today, I wrote "Ode to a Pancake" with one of my English classes. I encouraged them to generate quality nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.

This is the result:

An Ode to a Pancake

The pancake is as big as a diaper.
It reminds me of small camels spinning.
O, the pancake. O, the pancake!
What do hairy people think when they see you for the first time?
Perhaps they know there are happy days ahead.
O, the pancake. O, the pancake!
For some, you are orange, but for others, you are firm.
If we are licking, we pause when we think of you.
May you always whisper.
O, the pancake. O, the pancake!

At times, I'm quite immature. I'll admit it. But it's homecoming week at school, the week when even the valedictorian reverts to the maturity of a five-year-old.

that's rich. I love it. My English teacher never did stuff like that with us.

This is the perfect example of why I want to be a teacher. Now, if you culd simply talk me into going through the motions of getting certified...

I am now both hungry and happy that my kid is out of diapers at the same time.
