Time Travel Anyone? (Plus a Smattering of Cover Art)

Permuted Press (yes, that Permuted Press) has guidelines up for a new time travel themed anthology. I'm sure competition will be tight, but my muse doesn't seem to care right now. Check out the guidelines here. They open in April.



I shared the link to "The Awful Majesty of Being Gary" last Friday, but I couldn't help sharing the cover art to Port Iris #1.

Green is such a lovely/creepy color, don't you think? The morbid little grave, strange little dude, and shafts of light are just perfect. Port Iris has kicked off with a very nice aesthetic.

Gary Sump might appear again...if I can decide what he'll do next. It's hard to be a god.

I received my contributor's copy of Aoife's Kiss #32 yesterday. A story I used to teach in Sophomore level English inspired my story. "Distillation" is set in an apocalyptic/dystopic future where not everything is as it seems. (Like, when is it?)

The first lines:

Scars are curious things, whether worn as badges on the flesh or pressed deep inside one’s memory. I will always remember the night we lost the old man. It was black and silent, no hints of life outside the factory. He looked at me, his face bunched with wrinkles and his eyes damp. “They’re out there tonight. Can you hear them?” he asked.

Aoife's Kiss #32 has some nice poetry by Bruce Boston and Marge B. Simon, and plenty of fiction. Purchase at the genre mall.

Got Weird? A New Flash Market

Everyday Weirdness, a new market from the folks who brought you Thaumatrope, is open, seeking:

What’s weirder than a random collection of molecules suddenly, and inexplicably, gaining sentience—and even sapience? No matter what you send, make sure that tomorrow will be different than today.

I currently have an affinity for “mundane” weird, however, I want to see the full gamut, from “mundane” weird to “post-singularity-across-the-galaxy-weird-from-another-dimension.”

In other words, weird flash fiction (under 1,000 words), poetry, audio, and art.

Goals for '09 tomorrow. I promise.

Gone Fishing & A New Horror Market

Gone fishing? My horror bone has, anyway. So has Barry Napier's if you read his latest post. I need to ruminate a bit more on the idea of "what genre" I am, if any...I smell one of those long-winded posts coming on...

But not today. I'm heading out to go caroling with the high school kids (WHOOT the semester is over!). Owen (my five year old) is going, too.

Speaking of Gruesome Horror...

If you've read the discussion on my previous post, you know that I'm not much for gut-munching splatter, but if you are, The Monsters Next Door introduce The Devil's Food Anthology of Horror.

Guildelines just went up on Duotrope today, so I'm sure most of you have seen this. I just thought the timing was kind of funny, what with the discussion about horror and what-not.

I don't know if I can pull off "humans as food for some kind of monster". I don't know if I want to. Eating people isn't exactly my bit.

New Flash Horror Publication

Strange Publications (http://www.strangepublications.com/) has guidelines up for a new flash fiction market (horror/dark fantasy). The listing isn't up at Duotrope or Ralan yet, but Ed said I could go ahead and toss this one out to the masses.

They are trying to publish a story a week during 2009-they aren't paying much, $3 a pop, but offering discounts on the book at year's end.
