WIP Wednesday: Lost in the Font Forest

One of the fun things (for me) about e-publishing involves font selection.

Yes, you read that right: font selection. Crown me king of the geeks.

But think about it. Book covers are different in the digital era. They are an electronic "button" with which a reader might investigate or purchase your book. Fonts must be readable on small icons and draw in a reader's attention. They should convey a message about the book, too.

I could spend hours looking at fonts...

Unfortunately not much else would get done.

Some of my favorite haunts:

dafont.com

urbanfonts

1001 Free Fonts

Don't blame me if you accomplish nothing today.

Okay, maybe a weird thing to be interested, but I'm not complaining. Your obsession resulted in an awesome font choice for Uprooted. :-)

I have 868 fonts on my computer. Now you know my secret shame.

And my blog today is on book covers. It's like we're two halves of the same brain!

I fear for you... :)

Oh no... Fonts?? Please don't get me hooked on something else that takes my time!!

Tony - That's just it... a font has to be "perfect".

Mary - no shame in font love, only when it becomes paralyzing. Yay for brains!

Pat - Consider it an investment.

Oh boy, I remember when my webmaster asked what sort of font I wanted on my site, and pointed me to dafont.com.

I love typing in a book title and seeing how much the characteristic changes depending on the font. Geeks unite!

The proper term is "typeface". A font is a typeface in a specific size, such as Courier 12 pt or Utopia 10 pt.

Type nerds arise!

You've got me there, Everett! ;)

I do the same thing with fonts. Never used these sites, though. What I use is myfonts.com.

I'll have to dig through your sites tonight. Can never have too many fonts.
