Mad Scientist at Work

After all this schtuff about e-book pricing, I thought I'd run a totally non-scientific experiment:

The buyer can set the price for We are the Monsters when downloaded from Smashwords.

I don't have to run a scientific experiment to act like a scientist, so here's my hypothesis: I won't sell enough copies via Smashwords for accurate data. But you can read the first 50% for free.

(Mwhahahahaha...)

Interesting experiment. Let us know how it turns out.

Well, I guess I tossed a monkey wrench into your unscientific data collecting by purchasing a copy via Amazon. Mwa ha ha ha!

Har! The evil doctor is at work. You may be surprised at the results of the experiment.

I reckon that you'll be surprised how people will be confused by an offer of free stuff and will feel obliged to offer some token payment.

I dont often have faith in humanity's higher sense of nobility, so lets hope I'm right, eh?

May the experiment prove fruitful.

Interesting! I've experimented along similar lines with Smashwords in the past and found that it does work, people do pay even if they don't have to. Mind you, I've never sold that many through Smashwords so I'm not sure how good a statistical sample that is.
