WIP Wednesday: The Black Hole of Suck

That's where I'm at right now.

My ideas suck. My writing sucks. The weather, while sunny, is cold as a well-digger's ass (or as my brother used to say: "a witches *** in an iron bra"--couldn't bring myself to type that three letter word for some reason).

My kids have been sick. I've been sick. My wife has been sick.

I've had a deluge of short-listed "no thanks" rejections this week. Ouch. Ouch! OUCH, already!

One would think I could channel this suck into a good story, right? My brain it seems, has decided to switch into "stop writing" mode. I had a number of delicious ideas for the pending novel last weekend...then *poof*

Okay, enough whining. This is the plan: write chapter one of The New BookTM; share the first part of "The Hustle" on Friday (A rather pulpy story which was orphaned when From the Asylum went belly-up.I don't have the desire to seek a new home for it...my loss = your gain).

I can do this.

Thanks for listening.

It does sound like rough times around the Polson household. And yes, those short listed No Thanks hurt like hell. But hey, at least you're keeping active in the submission count!

I had a similar time of it last month, I must confess. Everything sucked hard. I think just making myself start writing something helped-- but that's just not doable until the worst of the suck is past, let's face it.

Well I'm drinking to the dissipation of the cloud of suck over the Polson house just now. Shiraz cannot steer us wrong, my friend.

Sorry to hear you're going through a bad patch, Mr Polson. That's all it is though, a patch. Take it from someone who's had more than their fair share. Btw, I read your story, In the Primal Library, today. What a great wee story it was too. You packed a lot into 1500 words. Now please write some more. Best, Steven.

If you're in The Black Hole of Suck, I suppose I'm in The Great White (Which Isn't Particularly White) North of Suck. Okay - we did get a few cm of snow last night, but I digress...

We've all been there. Some of us are there or will be again. I'll take a cue from Katey, mix a martini and toast to the end of suckage for all of us!

That's all right, I say enough vulgar words for the both of us. Are there any four letter ones you'd like to request? ; )

Ya know, reading Barry's post last week about his cat story and this here, I'm more and more convinced that the stuff we think sucks, even some of the stuff that gets rejected, doesn't suck, and in fact might be pretty good.

I mean, what the hell do we know? We just write them.

And someday, when folks are coming to US for stories, we're gonna hand out one of those just to be rid of it . . . and folks are gonna love it, because WE wrote it.

That's the dream anyway . . .

I hope you all get better soon. And sometimes, saying the bad words make you feel better :)

I hope you and yours feel much better very soon. I went through a lot of family down time last winter and can empathise. The fact that I'm standing in the eye of the suckage storm of all time also helps me feel some of your angst.

Like all things, Grasshopper, this to shall pass.

:c)

I am hoping that it can not be passed on through the cyberspace. And I think that you are entitled to a little bit of whine.

Barry - You sir, have a career in politics ahead with spin like that. Thanks.

Katey - At least I didn't have two blizzards in a week. ;) I think we have some booze around here...

Steven - Thanks. I enjoyed the hell out of writing that story.

Mary - Maybe we can mix the black hole and the snow and add a little vodka...

Natalie - The four letter words aren't usually a problem. Figure that.

Brendan - When you're right, you're so very right. Thanks.

Danielle - It's starting to look up already. Thanks.

BT - You made it special with a "grasshopper" reference. Rock. On.

Alan - Whine (wine) is an excuse for good cheese, right?

Thanks, everyone.

Heh. I thought anonymous' comment was cute.

And he had a point, you know . . .

CJ's right (as usual). Everybody IS cranky this week! (The black hole of suck... LOL)

Brendan - Yeah, a little crossover of my "real" life and my "secret" life. God forbid I should be crabby at school because the students are pains in the arse. God forbid. ;)

Cathy - I think I'm done with winter. That's my big beef. Here's to Spring!

'The Black Hole of Suck' sounds like something from a futuristic sex shop.

There's a story idea for you! ... or not. *cough*

Students being a pain - yeah right...

Sophie - I had to double check who wrote that comment. I could have sworn it was Nat, but then she wouldn't have suggested it - she would have turned it into a musical ;c)

Well it's very unusual to hear you all blocked and down in the dumps - I'm sure (and hope)it won't last for long. :D

We should get together some weekend and have a few drinks. I think it is only about a 5-6 hour drive depending on the weather. This winter is draggin' on us too.

Jodi Lee (Morrighan) said...

*hugs* <-- I know, not much but short of a really long drive after getting a passport and packing and checking the weather and road reports... ;)

Of course this too, shall pass. Meantime...check your inbox. ;)

The arse-end of winter is the worst. I hope it warms up soon and your family all regain their happy good health. The words will probably unfreeze right about then too.
