"God's Creatures" - Podcast

Summer means more time to play with my tech toys, so I've dusted off an entry for last year's MicroHorror flash fiction contest and recorded it as an audio podcast.

Give a listen to "God's Creatures", a story inspired by the root cellar at my grandparents' home when I was a child. Read the text if you choose.

  1. nice story. Thanks for sharing. Now I have to go check the cellar at my in-laws place.

  4. Jamie - Root cellars are the oddest places in this modern world...a real throw-back.

    Thanks, Barry.

    Rebecca - I'll admit I'm a bit of a ham.

  5. I remember that story. I liked it even better read out loud! Maybe because my mom always did the voices for me as a kid...

  6. Fantastic. Now this is one idea, I most definitely will not be copying. :) I get higher and higher when I speak and before you know it I'd be shattering your computer scream.

  7. If I write a creepy story for a podcast, will you read it? Because when I read stuff, it sounds more like Happy Time in Funville or something like that.

  8. Cate - that would be scary.

Carrie - I'd be glad to, although Happy Time in Funville sounds very creepy to me.

  9. That was very cool, Aaron. Coincidentally I just read that story a few days ago. Top notch. I also enjoyed the Oxcart man video a couple of days ago as well. You should be recording horror stories for people as a sideline!

  10. Thanks, Natalie.

Alan - I love the sound of words read aloud, and savor occasions when I get to do so with my students.

  11. Creepy and gross - the latter because I was imagining the smell from someone chained up in such a place for so long.

I'd give this podcast thing a shot, but I have no microphone.

  12. Aaron - I think you may need to add to TLODS with somewhere for audio reprints.

People can send you stories that have already been published somewhere, because chances are they never used the audio rights, and you can read them and post them for the world to enjoy!

Or you can tell me to go and sit in the corner and never mention silly ideas ever again...

  13. BT - not a bad idea, at all.

Jameson - I use an Edirol E09, an awesome little digital recorder (studio musicians actually use these bad boys). I'm pretty shameful when it comes to tech toys. Once upon a time I was going to make music. Ha ha ha.

  14. OMG, excellent! And supremely creepy, of course, but in a good way.

  15. Excellent as always, Aaron.

  16. Nice one, Aaron. I’m a sucker for audio fiction (have mp3, will travel, right?) especially when it’s done well.

You nailed it – a definite side-line, I think. More please.
