"To Make Things Right" is up at Every Day Fiction, followed by an interview from little ol' me.
I must say the story was inspired by one of my favorite short stories of all time (and one that still leaves me scratching my head), "The Assembly of the Dead" by Chet Williamson. Find a copy and read it. I know you can in 100 Hair-Raising Little Horror Stories.
Enjoy!
Loved the interview! I was always curious if your student were aware that you wrote dark stuff...
ReplyDeleteBarry - that would probably amp up my cool factor.
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Aaron! Excellent little story.
ReplyDeleteDitto what Barry said. :)
ReplyDeleteLike the rest of us, I too was interested in that little factoid. Nice story by the way.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jodi.
ReplyDeleteCate - they might run screaming.
Jamie - cheers.
Good interview! And congrats again on the story being the most viewed : )
ReplyDeleteAwesome story! (It totally creeped me out, incidentally. I'm sitting in the fac/staff break room sneaking looks at the fridge now.) The interview was great too!
ReplyDeleteI wish I'd had a teacher who was also a writer when I was in high school. Then again, that was pre-Internet so maybe I did and just didn't know it.
Thanks, Natalie.
ReplyDeleteK.C. - My grandmother used to have one full of...cookies.
Oh, the evil of cookies.
Fridge, that is. ;)
ReplyDeleteAfter I read "The Lottery" I remember thinking, I wanna do that! Not stone someone, but write so powerfully too. I will confess Flannery O'Connor's "A Good Man is Hard to Find" ranks as my number one. It's required reading in your class, I hope. ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh, and nice interview.
Rebecca - I never planned to teach (the family curse)...I never planned to write horror...but my classes do read O'Connor and "The Lottery" is on the syllabus every fall.

ReplyDeleteCool story, cool interview, cool all around.
ReplyDelete(I will be nitpicky though and agree you probably could have foregone the first section of the story.)
Robert - I didn't even imagine leaving that bit out when I wrote it, but now...it does work with just the second part.
ReplyDeleteAn interview? That’s seriously cool (is it still cool to say cool?) and great story too. Short, sharp shock.
ReplyDeleteLoved the story and the interview was good too. That Every Day Fiction market is in my sights now.
ReplyDeleteCongrats. Heading over to read it.
ReplyDeleteNow everyone is getting interviewed...
ReplyDeleteNice interview and cool story (yes it's still cool to say cool).
I always wonder what makes people write dark fiction-- for me it's childhood fears, too... or lingering grown up ones. (Seriously hate mirrors. Hate.)
ReplyDeleteVery cool interview, and congrats again on having the most read story for April. Huge!
The story was chilling, the interview was really interesting and congrats on being most read for April!
