The World is Shrinking; The Land of Dead Stories

I confused my wife yesterday. I do so frequently, and Aimee is quite used to it.

Me: I sold some books to help the fires in Australia.

Aimee: Huh?

Rewind: There are terrible fires in Australia. I know some writers (through my writing experiences) who live in Australia. I tried to think of a way to help, and figured I could donate a few copies of Tainted for sale, sending the proceeds to the Red Cross.

Aimee: Now I understand.

Me: The world is shrinking.

Aimee: Sure (nods her head politely and walks away)

In other news, I officially killed one market last year. Grim Graffiti had accepted "In the Dark, Alone and Hungry" before folding. I'm too tired to find another home for that piece (it has already made the rounds, anyway), so in an act of closure, I'm posting it as the first resident in The Land of Dead Stories. If anyone ever has a piece that kills a market and you don't want to search for a new home, let me know. I'll add it to The Land.

Saturday is Valentine's Day. Regardless of how you feel about the holiday, I'll have a love letter for my dear readers. Hugs and kisses (from a zombie).

That Land of Dead Stories. Heh. I've got one somewhere I should dig up, about a kid who's addicted to soap carving and decides to kill his aunt.

Yeah, I have no clue what I was thinking, either.

With a carved piece of soap? That would be classic.

The Land of Dead Stories - I love the idea. I'm always retiring mine and have a few I could send your way (to be posted anonymously of course - or with a pseudonym).

I thought your story would benefit from a larger story being wrapped around it.

You will probably get a few 'dead' stories from me as well. if you put a piece of soap in a sock you can really pound on someone.

Liquid soap isn't nearly as effective.

Cate - good point; there was a larger story--I just wasn't mature enough to write it at the time.

Jamie - ouch, soap in the socks. Liquid soap = squishy.

How does the Land of Dead Stories feel about Splatterpunk? ; )

Send it along Nat. I'm not calling "The Land of Dead Stories" a "market" but I have "guidelines" at the blog.

Basically any dead story, published anonymously (preferably, but I'm flexible), with a line or two of comment from the author. I figure this can be a learning experience, maybe.

Send to aaron.polson@gmail.com and I'll post it.

I might have one for you soon as I have a feeling its about to be rejected AGAIN as well. Nothing like remaining positive :)

Paint me a little confused.

I first thought TLODS would be for stories that were accepted but then the market closed and the author no longer wnated to send them out - "If anyone ever has a piece that kills a market..."

But now it sounds like any story you are retiring and willing to throw up on TLODS is acceptable and you have guidelines for it.

I figure the guidelines would clear things up for me, but I can't find them.

Your wife and mine should get together one day, I think they'd hit it off quite well.

Danielle - TLODS would welcome your contribution.

BT - My story killed a market, but any "dead" story is welcome. Check the text on the right side of TLODS screen. Sorry for any confusion. ;)

Fantastic idea. The recent computer crash ate 95% of my stuff, but I'm sure I'll have something before long that will qualify...unless there's a place in the Land of Dead stories called Crapopolis, then all mine would fit. :)

Ooh, I love the Land of Dead Stories idea! I have one that I was going to delete from my hard drive (THAT's a retired story, darn it) after its latest rejection. Maybe I'll send it to you instead. As long as it's an anonymous posting because I have come to hate that story with the passion of a million suns.

K.C. - go ahead. It's kind of cathartic.
