Vintage Star Wars Sweetness

A fellow teacher sent me this link to a whole slew of vintage Star Wars pictures, everything from old action figures to the packages of bubble gum cards (do you remember when so-called "trading cards" had that rock solid gum in the package?).

Check out Chewbacca in a rather, um, "seductive" pose:

"Hey baby, you want to come over to my tree house and listen to some Tito Puente albums?"

Of course it looks like Starlog (the magazine from which the picture is taken) couldn't afford the whole Chewbacca costume. Did they borrow the body from Twilight Zone after "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet?" Sheesh.

In other Star Wars weirdness, I went to a toy show last weekend (my wife not understanding that toy shows were for old, potbellied men and not little children). I remember when Jawas were the only Star Wars action figures I could find at Wal-Mart, everybody had picked over the rest. Some dude had two he was trying to sell, still on their cards, for $198.

If I only had a time machine...

No kidding! It was always the Jawas and the Rancor keeper at our toy store. And I had them. They were Barbie's housekeepers. Barbie went a little Dr. Frankenstein at my house.

Gosh, I wish I still had those.

I'm kicking myself for the way I treated my Star Wars toys when I was a kid. And the worst part is I don't even know what ended up happening to them! What was I thinking? I do have a sizeable collection from about 10 years ago that are all still packaged, but it'll probably be another 30 years before those are worth anything.

Sadly, while I saw every Star Wars movie in the theater except for episode III, I never had any toys from the era. My next door neighbor had them all. I think his mom still has them all, probably in the same spot. Of course I still remember sitting, front and center while watching The Muppet Movie when I was four.

Your wife is like Ying. He was a fish out of water at Context, wondering around and wondering why people were dressing up funny.

That Chewie picture is just...wrong.

I remember almost buying a Hoth action playset at the store when I was a kid, but I passed it up because it was $11 and that was all I had and I didn't want to spend all my money, even for a tauntaun. I bet if I tried to buy one now, it would still take all my money.

Oh god, that makes me think of the horrible, horrible Star Wars Christmas Special...

But I gotta agree with the above poster. That Chewy picture is going to haunt my nightmares for quite some time.

I'd be happy to accept six figures...until then, carpe diem!
