I Hope They Burn My Books Someday

We're wrapping up Fahrenheit 451 in one of my classes, and I just want to share my love of Ray Bradbury. I hope they try to burn my books someday.*

(Bradbury's notes about the book title. Click for more from The Big Read.)

Read the Coda to Fahrenheit 451 to find out why.

NaNoWriMos...please write very flammable books. They're the only ones worth reading.

  1. Thanks for the link. I think the Coda to Farenheit 451 was brilliant.

  3. "Let them eat stale cake dunked in weak tea of their own ungodly manufacture."

    God, I love that man.

Saw this twitpic posting from Neil Gaiman this afternoon, and I decided this is how you know you've made it, and are full of awesome.

  4. Bradbury is a genius. I love that man and his stories. In a similar vein, I have a picture essay of Little Black Sambo in my library. It hangs prominently on a wall devoid of other books or pictures.

  5. Alan - The whole book thrills me. I can't believe people censored a book about censorship.

Cate - It's nice to know pros do some of the same weird stuff I do.

Katey - Thanks for the pic. Wow.

Jamie - My wife has a pseudo-censored copy of LBS where they reinvented the story to be in India. Silly.

  6. I haven't read this book but will definitely now put it on my To Buy List. I do love Something Wicked This Way Comes though.

  7. I don't think I can get anything I write burned for it's brutal insights on the human condition, so I'll have to rely on rampant nudity. All that friction is bound to start a fire.

  8. Danielle - I loved Something Wicked. Bradbury has such a way with figurative language.

Natalie - Sounds like a plan.

    Buck - Else what?

  9. I probably shouldn't admit that I'm not a Bradbury fan. I think his writing is good, but I've never been able to get into it. I must have tried Something Wicked This Way Comes half a dozen times.

We had to read Fahrenheit 451 in tenth grade. I hated it. Maybe it's time to try it again now that I'm a grown-up. :)

  10. K.C. - I can understand. I don't think his schtuff is for everyone. I love his attitude about writing, though. The man is a pure writer.
